Solidworks Mastery

Essential Solidworks Lessons for Product Design Engineers
This curriculum is built from the best tutorials YouTube has to offer. We did the work creating this list so you don’t have to.

1. Surface Modeling in Solidworks

Tidy up your feature tree, create beautiful form-factors, and iterate effortlessly per DFM feedback
Surface Loft to make a Spoon (21 minutes)
Learn Surface Loft / Trim
Surface Modeling a Computer Mouse (57 minutes)
Learn Boundary Surface, Trim, Surface Knit

2. Top Down Assembly / Master Model Technique

You know how to design a part and mate it in an assembly. But what happens when you change one part of a multi-part assembly? Mates break and gaps unknowingly change, taking lots of time from you to fix it. Top Down approach using Master model technique is key to maintaining design intent with rapidly changing parts in an assembly.
Master Model as Foundation for Multiple Parts (9 minutes)
Use Master Sketch to Drive Features in a Part (5 minutes)

3. Solidworks Sheet Metal Mode

It’s important to understand how to create sheet metal parts so you can easily flatten from 3D to 2D. When prototyping sheet metal on the quick and cheap, laser cutting 2D flats and bending yourself is the way to go.
Basics of Sheet Metal (24 minutes)

4. Solidworks Finite Element Analysis

FEA is a powerful tool - but always test theoretical values against real life experimental data. Build prototypes to test discrete features of your part and compare against FEA. Triple check boundary conditions to ensure it represents real life.
Static Analysis: Classic Cantilever Beam (9 minutes)
Static Analysis: Contacting Bodies (5 minutes)
Nonlinear Analysis: Rubber Contact Bodies (10 minutes)
